THE Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 5 continues to keep track on the status of the survivors and relatives of the victims of the fishing boat that caught fire due to an explosion while traveling from Masbate to a fishing spot in Daang-Bantayan on June 5.'The DSWD is greatly saddened by the incident. We extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the casualties.
According to the initial report, the fishing boat, which was carrying 12 crew members, was on its route from Masbate waters to Daan-Bantayan when it had engine troubles. The fire started due to an explosion in Naga, Cebu, at approximately 8 p.m.Six crew members survived and six others perished in the incident.The DSWD-5 distributed P5,000 in financial relief assistance to each of the three survivors' families, as well as support services for the processing of funeral aid for the casualties.
