A sea vessel caught fire in the waters of Basilan, leaving at least two people dead, according to the Philippine Coast Guard Station Basilan. | JMangaluzINQ

According to the coast guard, the M/V MaryJoy3 caught fire near Baluk-Baluk Island, Basilan on Wednesday night. It deployed a search and rescue team together with local government units, helping to recover the cadavers.Rescue personnel recovered at least two cadavers during search and rescue operations, said the PCG.

“The Provincial Government of Basilan under the leadership of Governor Jim Salliman hereby expresses its deepest sympathies to the passengers of the ill-fated M/V MaryJoy 3 which caught fire at sea off Baluk-Baluk Island Basilan, while navigating from Zamboanga City to Jolo, Sulu shortly before midnight Wednesday, March 29,” said the Provincial Government of Basilan in a Facebook post.
