CEBU CITY — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR-7) reported an estimated P14.98 M damage to the fishery sector in Central Visayas due to the onslaught of Typhoon Ursula last week with the seaweed (Guzo) farms in northern Cebu experiencing the most damage.

Saavedra added that BFAR’s Multi-Species Hatchery facility located at a coastal community in Barangay Kawit, Medellin, Cebu was destroyed with an estimated damage at P1.2 Million which was 90 percent of its structure. With the damage, Saavedra said the operations at the facility were suspended temporarily but officials assured the fisherfolks and the LGU that rehabilitation follows immediately to resume its activities and to continue its services the soonest possible time.
