The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency ( PDEA) agent who was killed in a shootout with the police during an alleged drug buy-bust misencounter on Wednesday night, February 24, at the Ever Gotesco Mall in Quezon City was the recipient of numerous awards in his eighth years of service with the agency.

A member of the Ifugao tribe, Rankin B. Gano, 43, entered the agency as an intelligence officer on March 25, 2013. He was a member of the PDEA Class Manalig.

From December 2014 to August 2016, Gano was re-assigned at the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group before being transferred to PDEA Regional Office IX where he stayed until August 2017. During his tenure with the agency, PDEA spokesperson Derrick Carreon said that Gano underwent extensive “air to ground operations,” earning him several recognitions for his integrity and prowess in the performance of his duty.
