The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) will now offer Pilipino Studies as a minor under the Asian American Studies (AASD) starting in the fall of 2020.

The Pilipino Studies Minor Program, open to undergraduates, will encompass a wide range of courses related to Filipino language, history, diaspora issues, anthropology, and geography.

“At the beginning of May, the UCLA Asian American Studies Department announced a new minor that many of us have organized and advocated for in the last 30 years — the Pilipino Studies minor!” UCLA announced on its website last week. According to a report by Asian Journal, the Pilipino Studies Minor Program will offer “comprehensive social justice points of view and explore global Filipino community’s relationship with concepts,” such as capitalism, racism, colonialism, and politics.
