To serve and protect: COVID-19 duties keeping homesick cops from families

As part of the Crisis Response Battalion , these policemen man checkpoints from dusk till dawn, rain or shine. They can be seen patrolling the streets, checking every nook and cranny of the city’s barangays to ensure that residents are following the quarantine protocols set out by the government in what has been long-drawn battle against the coronavirus disease .

Encluna is assigned to man one of the quarantine control points in the city. He renders a daily eight-hour duty, enduring the searing heat of the sun, the cold nights, and the risk of possibly contracting the disease just so he could perform his sworn duty. Last May 10 was the wedding anniversary of the Encluna couple. The policeman’s mother celebrated her birthday last May 27, while his wife graduated as a criminology student last June 10. He missed celebrating them with his family because of work.

Magsayo has not gone home since graduating from the Regional Training School last August. She was deployed in Cebu City after graduation until the COVID-19 pandemic struck. The CRB is composed of personnel from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion, Field Training Program, National Police College and regional police offices in Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas and Western Visayas.
