Gilas Pilipinas coach Tim Cone gave credit to former national coach Chot Reyes for making everyone believe that the Philippines can compete against world class basketball squads when he handled the team in the past.

The American coach noted that the country's near wins against Argentina, Croatia, Greece and Puerto Rico were some of the specific proofs during the country's return to the FIBA World Cup in 2014 in Seville, Spain.'I feel like Chot Reyes gave us the feel that we could play with these guys. He did it in 2014, when we stayed close against Argentina all the way to the last minute, and just lost the games.

We were there with the Domincan Republic. That group gave us an idea that yeah, we can compete with these teams. We just gotta figure out a way, get over the hump,' Cone said.As Gilas Pilipinas regroups on June 21 and begin its preparation at the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, Cone said there are still more questions needed to be answered.
