Three deceased police pensioners still received a total of P2.34 million in pension long after their death, the Commission on Audit (COA) said.

The three deceased former policemen received total P2,341,951.53 pension benefits 15 to 47 months after their death, COA revealed.

COA noted that the request for the delivery of firearms, mobility, and communications equipment was made by PNP as early as 2016. “It is but logical that once the retiree dies, his/her pension benefit shall be transferred to his/her qualified beneficiary, while the name of the retiree should then be removed/deleted from the PNP pensioners master list,” COA said.

COA told the head of the PNP Retirement and Benefits Administration Services to strengthen its monitoring mechanism on deceased pensioners by regularly updating and preparing a consolidated list of deceased pensioners. COA emphasized that PNP has advanced P1.347 to PITC for the said procurement of mobility, firearms, and other equipment from March to April in 2016. But only P137 million was delivered in 2018 after 16 to 26 months.

The undelivered items were utility trucks, automatic grenade launcher, light personnel carrier, to specify some.
