A technical working group will be created soon to study the 1992 agreement between the University of the Philippines (UP) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

According to a statement, UP officials led by UP President Danilo Concepcion had a meeting on Friday, Feb. 5, with officials of the Department of Interior and Local Government and the Philippine National Police at Camp Crame.

The 1992 UP-DILG agreement, which limits police presence in UP campuses, was signed by then UP President Jose Abueva and then DILG Secretary Rafael M. Alunan III after the enactment of Republic Act No. 6975 which transferred the country’s police force from the DND to the DILG. Under both agreements, the military and the police should inform the UP administration that they intend to conduct military or police operations within any of the UP campuses.

“During the meeting, the DILG and the PNP affirmed their recognition of the value of academic freedom as well as peace and security in the University of the Philippines,” the statement read.

Freedom is not the right to do the things you want to do. Without governance and control, there is no true freedom.

Abrogate all accords with SUC's. Dapat nga appointed ng government ang mga deans nyan para siguradong namomonitor ang activities nila.
