The Supreme Court ruled that government-owned Philippine Mining Development Corporation (PMDC) has preferential mining rights over areas in Davao de Oro, also known as Compostela Valley.

The Supreme Court ruled that government-owned Philippine Mining Development Corporation has preferential mining rights over areas in Davao de Oro, also known as Compostela Valley.

The SC instead reinstated an October 28, 2009 decision by the Mines Adjudication Board of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources . The SC said the CA erred in its ruling by"concluding that the FTAA application should not be considered as the State’s intention to explore, develop and utilize the country’s natural resources."

In contrast, NDMC held valid claims through mining lease contracts dating back to 1965 and 1978. NDMC also had lode lease applications from 1982 to 1988.
