After Vice President Leni Robredo was charged for sedition, a solidarity petition has circulated online urging the Department of Justice to “immediately dismiss” the complaint and “uphold her constitutional mandate” to serve the people.

The online petition, named #ProtectVPLeni and started by Team Pilipinas, has been signed by 10,934 people as of Tuesday morning. It was launched by the group last weekend.

“To prosecute her and remove her from her position based on bogus allegations from a questionable witness is a clear violation of the mandate of the people, and an outright insult to our democracy,” its letter read. Other respondents included opposition Senators Risa Hontiveros and Leila de Lima, former senators Antonio Trillanes IV and Bam Aquino, and “Otso Diretso” candidates except for former Senator Mar Roxas.

Robredo, who is the leader of the opposition, laughed off on the sedition charges by the PNP-CIDG over the controversial videos that linked Duterte’s family and allies to the illegal drug trade.
