The province imposed travel restrictions, including those coming from the neighboring islands of Malaysia, to curb the spread of the virus, the Sulu Task Force COVID-19 said.
Only those carrying food commodities and other essentials such as fuel and medicine are permitted to enter the province, said task force spokesperson Jainab Abdulmajid. Crew members of cargo vessels, however, are not allowed to disembark and must undergo strict screening procedures. Traveling around the province through land and sea is allowed as long as residents are screened and have their temperatures checked.In case supplies run low, Sulu Governor Sakur Tan offered his cargo vessels to restock commodities.The municipal government of Jolo also imposed curfew to limit the movement of people and business operation of commercial establishments.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the province remains free of COVID-19, which has so far infected 202 people in the Philippines, including 17 fatalities.
