The strong rains that submerged parts of Metro Manila on Sunday were not enough to increase the water level in Angat Dam, the primary water source of the region. A state hydrologist said at least two strong typhoons are needed to reach the operational level to supply water to Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
The low pressure area now affecting Casiguran, Aurora is not expected to bring enough rainwater to replenish the dam reservoir and meet normal demand. He said the Angat Dam, which dipped to 159.09 meters Monday morning, needs to be hit by two storms to reach an operational level. For the water level to rise back to the normal level, three to four typhoons will need to drench the dam reservoir.
Weather data from PAGASA indicate that Angat Dam's water elevation will recover by end of July at the earliest with the number of typhoons expected to enter the country. "If the rains will only come in July and no rains will come this month, we expect that the level of the dam will breach the lowest recorded level in 2010," he told CNN Philippines said on Monday.
What about cloud seeding to increase rainfall? Aasa na lang ba tayo sa ulan at mga bagyo para sa sapat na tubig ng mga Filipino? Rain dance kaya?
ilan Ondoy type rain ang kailangan para mapuno yang dam?
