Student political groups and alumni organizations in the University of the Philippines decried theThe scrapping of the UP-Department of National Defense agreement, as students and various groups slammed the administration's red-tagging and continuing crackdown on dissent.
The accord again played a crucial role especially during the pandemic and the implementation of the anti-terror law, when UP campuses were go-to safe spaces for protests defying prior government warnings of arrests. For most of them, the UP-DND accord is more than just an agreement but a symbol of a decades-long sacrifice to protect democracy and uphold academic freedom.
Students also stressed that this matter should not only concern the UP community but all Filipinos in general.
