A lawmaker asked President Rodrigo Duterte to suspend the increase in Philippine Health Insurance Corp. contributions amid “economic hardships” due to the coronavirus disease pandemic.
The circular, released in accordance with Republic Act 11223 or the “Universal Health Care Act,” also prescribes an increment of 0.5 percent every year thereafter until it reaches the 5-percent limit in 2025. She noted that healthcare professionals, including those in the provinces, would have to shell out at least P60,000 to P100,000 to get PhilHealth accreditation.
She cited a statement from the Philippine Medical Association that the new rates would unduly burden their members especially those in the provinces who only earn an average income.
