The full implementation of the SIM Card Registration Act will significantly reduce the number of spam text messages, a top official of the Department of Information and Communications Technology said Friday.

Lamentillo explained that the total number of subscribers exceeded the country’s entire population, and some unregistered SIMs were used for scams and other crimes.The DICT official said that by April 26, the deadline for SIM registration, unregistered SIMs would be deactivated. “Even now, we are already seeing drastic reduction as far as these spam messages are concerned,” she said.

Actually they work doubly hard now. I have received enormous text scam for the last 3 weeks ?!

There will be a central data bank of personal information that can be breached, buy, or in any unlawful activity, then you know who texted you, sending links but unsolicited. It’s not nice. In other countries, the company pays when there’s a data breach. Ph 🤷‍♀️
