Some groups find that the approved P33 daily minimum wage increase in Metro Manila is not enough with the looming hike in prices of basic commodities.

According to Cedric Castillo’s report on “24 Oras”, workers’ organizations including the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines said the wage increase is a mere pittance.

From P537 per day, the daily minimum wage in Metro Manila will be raised to P570 following the National Wages Productivity Commission approval of the wage hike. “‘Yung una namin sanang gusto, i-exempt ‘yung micro-industries. Ninety percent ng ating industries are micro at 65 percent ng workers come from the micro,” said Sergio Ortiz-Luis, President of Employers’ Confederation of the Philippines.
