Senior administration lawmakers Tuesday backed Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano’s call for an oversight review of the K to 12 education system but rejected calls for its abolition.

Reps. Mohamad Khalid Dimaporo and Luis Campos Jr. said the review is a move in the right direction since the implementation of the K-12 program is being slowed down by budgetary constraints.

“It is difficult to judge the K-12 with the backlog of teachers and classrooms not fully addressed,” said Dimaporo, chairman of the House Committee on Mindanao Affairs.Dimaporo noted that there has also been a “clamor to increase teachers pay.” Castro stressed that an investigation has long been overdue since there has been a strong need to “look into the roots of the issues, including the chronic underfunding for the requirements of basic education, and immediately address them.”

Solon slams ‘senseless’ rice subsidy for rice farmersThe government's rice subsidy program for rice farmers makes zero sense to Negros Oriental 2nd district representative Manuel Sagarbarria. Subsidy should be done in such a way to reduce their farming expenses - murang binhi, fertilizer, insecticide. Hindi mo sila bibigyan ng bigas, magiging ala 4Ps yan - tatamarin na rin sila magtamin pag nangyari yon. Aasa na lang sila sa subsidy na bigas/palay.
