Buildings and other property development infrastructure in the country should be equipped with broadband connectivity that is lease-free, House Deputy Majority Leader and ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo said Wednesday.

Tulfo said requiring broadband connectivity is an essential policy, alongside installation of power and water lines which is pre-set and lease-free in the current construction industry practice.“The setup for digital connectivity should also be included in the template for the occupants’ basic utilities. I will support and actively participate in any legislation which seeks to promote and expedite the digital transformation of the country,” he said.

With property developers yet to fully embrace such a policy, Tulfo called on his colleagues to amend the 47-year old National Building Code by adding a provision that requires free installation of broadband networks as default layout in all private and government property development designs.
