A personnel of the Senate’s Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms passed away on Wednesday morning due to suspected COVID-19.
Senate President Vicente Sotto III said the 62-year-old employee was rushed to the hospital days before he died due to pneumonia. Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Rene Samonte, however, clarified that the OSAA personnel was “not yet confirmed as [a] COVID case.”Senate Secretary Myra Villarica said in a separate message that the “cause of death is pneumonia.”
The OSAA is responsible for the security and maintenance of order in the Senate, and provides physical and logical security for the senators and their staff, as well as other Senate offices.
