Cavite Rep. Abraham Tolentino told the House Committee on Youth and Sports Wednesday that Saudi sports minister Prince Abdul Aziz bin Turki Al-Faisal was impressed by the country’s hosting of the 30th Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) last year.

Tolentino, speaking at the panel hearing on House Bill No.1526 or the measure seeking to ban minors from full-contact competitive sports, and imposing penalties for violation thereof, also said this Middle Eastern royalty wants to tap him as a “consultant” on holding sporting events in Saudi Arabia for organizing the 2019 SEAG as Philippine Olympic Commission president.

“Actually last night , I was personally called by his highness, the Prince of Saudi Arabia, Abdul Aziz, tinatanong po niya kung kailan ako darating next week ,” Tolentino said during a virtual hearing of the committee. “Sabi ko po, by Monday nandiyan na po ako sa Oman, sa Muscat to attend the general assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia,” the Cavite congressman said.

“He congratulated me as the reelected president of POC and of course congratulated me on the very successful Southeast Asian Games. And with that, sinabi po niya na kapag sila ay nanalo to host other big events like Asian Games, he will be consulting me and giving some inputs regarding the sports developmental program,” Tolentino said.

Tolentino was reelected POC president late last month in what was described as a positive feedback if not validation on how the SEAG was carried out in December a year ago.
