Sangkatutak na blue jellyfish, dumagsa sa baybayin ng Butuan City

Maganda man pagmasdan ang pagdagsa ng kakaibang mga blue jellyfish o "bungkatol" sa baybayin ng Butuan City, Agusan del Norte, pero may dala naman itong peligro at perhuwisyo sa kabuhayan ng mga residenteng mangingisda. Bakit nga kaya dumagsa ang mga dikyang ito?

Paliwanag ng environmentalist na si Gregg Yan, ang symbiotic na algae na tinatawag na zooxanthellae ang nagbibigay-kulay at nagsisilbing pagkain sa mga jellyfish. “Ang mga jellyfish ay merong nematocysts. Ito ay ginagamit nila to stun, capture, and eventually eat their prey. Puwede itong magdulot ng allergic reaction,” sabi ni Yan.Si Cindy Delegencia, nadaplisan na ng galamay ng bungkatol sa kaliwang mata nang minsang hilahin niya ito sa buhangin para ilayo sa mga anak.

Mula sa 10 hanggang 20 kilo ng mga isda na nahuhuli at kumikita ng P5,000 kada araw, naging isang kilo o kalahating kilo na lamang ang nahuhuli ni Sabucdalao dahil sa mga dikya.
