MANILA — San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said he is undergoing self-quarantine beginning Sunday after being exposed to a staff who turned out positive for coronavirus disease 2019 .
"In the interest of public safety, I will be going on self-quarantine starting today until April 11, 2020. Rest assured that... I will continue to manage San Juan's day to day operations," Zamora said in a statement. The local chief executive said he is "in perfect physical condition" and is not exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms but opted to isolate himself "as a safety precaution for everyone." In its latest public bulletin, San Juan City, as of 6 p.m. of March 27, has 73 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 10 recorded deaths.
The Philippines has logged 1,075 COVID-19 cases, 68 of whom died and 35 others recovered, as of Saturday, according to the Department of Health.
