The bishop of the Diocese of San Carlos in Negros Occidental has issued an appeal for prayers and assistance for the people affected by the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano, according to a post on the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines website. “I appeal for your generous support to provide for the immediate needs of our affected brothers and sisters,” said Bishop Gerardo Alminaza .The prelate said the people need face masks, potable water, emergency food packs, and medicines.
The Social Action Center of the Diocese of San Carlos reported that about 400 individuals from four barangays in Canlaon City are in evacuation centers as of morning of Monday, June 4, 2024.Bishop Alminaza also said that the diocese is cooperating with local government units in sending aid to the affected residents.He also called on the public for prayers for the victims of the calamity.
