Rappler talks to the board of Aktor about the league, its plans, and the role actors should play ahead of the 2022 elections. Catch RapplerTalk tomorrow, December 14!

In show business , talk typically revolves around projects, the art, or the glitz and glamour that surrounds an actor’s personal and professional life; seldom does it involve discussions on workers’ rights, representation, or protections for the people whose work we consume on small and big screens, and even the live stage. The league was formed by actors for actors in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns in the Philippines.

The strict quarantines, after all, meant that for many actors, work was put on indefinite hold. Months later, as restrictions eased, it also meant new rules – and dangers – when shooting during a pandemic. Given both situations, on top of long-standing labor issues in the industry, it only made sense for actors to come together and make a collective stand.

In this special episode of Rappler Talk, the league's board – composed of Cherry Pie Picache, Iza Calzado, Agot Isidro, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Dingdong Dantes, Ron Capinding, and Mylene Dizon – speaks to entertainment editor Bea Cupin about Aktor, its plans and projects, and what role the entertainment industry should play in 2022.
