The government will be installing a telemetered rainfall and water level gauging system in Bukidnon, providing a great opportunity to improve flood forecasting and warning for the Cagayan de Oro River Basin.

National Irrigation Administration Administrator Ricardo Visaya and Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration Administrator Vicente Malano led the signing of a memorandum of agreement last Wednesday for the installation and operation of a Telemetered Rainfall and Water Level Gauging Station in the NIA Bubunawan Irrigation Intake Facility at Barangay Salimbalan in Baungon town.

An automatic rainfall and water level gauging equipment and repeater/relay towers will also be constructed to enable the speedy transmission of hydrological data to the Cagayan de Oro River Basin Flood Forecasting and Warning Center , as well as to the main operation center of the PAGASA-Hydrometeorology Division.

NIA and PAGASA said the station will “effectively carry out flood forecasting and warning activities” for the Cagayan de Oro River Basin.
