There are now 54 residents who tested positive for coronavirus after attending a pool party and a drinking session.

The local government said Monday that from 51, there are now 54 residents who tested positive for coronavirus after attending a pool party which was held on May 9 and a drinking session on May 11., I think people got the wrong impression na we're okay," Mayor Joy Belmonte told CNN Philippines. The homeowners' association head was later identified as Juancho Yusores. A show-cause order was already issued to Barangay Chairperson Feliciano dela Cruz last week following the incident.

Feliciano has denied knowledge of the incident, but Belmonte said he is still responsible because the area is under his jurisdiction. CNN Philippines is trying to get the comments of Yusores.Meanwhile, the Interior Department and the Philippine National Police are also checking whether barangay officials and the police community precinct commander should be held liable for failing to stop the so-called superspreader events.

"We wish to remind the local government officials including the barangay and the Philippine National Police station commander that the President has spoken that you will be held responsible for any superspreader event that happens in your specific locality. You will have to continue monitoring all of these, you will have to act immediately," Interior Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said in a briefing on Monday.

"Otherwise, the DILG will reassign you and remove you from office if you are the PNP precinct commander in that area. Or if you are the local government official or the barangay official, you will be facing charges of dereliction of duty and negligence," he added. More than 600 residents were tested after the two incidents. Malaya added that the LGU will issue ordinance violation receipts to them for attending a mass gathering and violating health protocols.
