Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte on Friday said 85 percent of the locality’s main roads and vital inner streets are now free from all obstructions and expressed confidence that the city will meet the Sept. 29 deadline set by the national government to clear primary, secondary and Mabuhay lanes.

A personnel of the Quezon City District Public Order and Safety dismantles a structure along a sidewalk at Ermin Garcia St. near Mega Q Mart in Quezon City as part of the clearing operations done by the local government.

Belmonte also acknowledged the crucial role of barangay officials in the local government’s clearing operations. She noted that Caloocan City, the second-largest city in Metro Manila, has a space of 53.33 square kilometers or less than one-third of Quezon City’s size. “Nakikita natin na sila ang nagkusang tibagin ang kanilang mga tahanan na nag-e-encroach sa sidewalk ,” said Belmonte.
