, Puey Quiñones goes back to his couture roots as he presents his latest collection at Los Angeles Fashion Week 2022 last April 1.
For his couture comeback, Puey channels the beauty of remarkable women in his collection, getting inspiration from American-born Greek soprano Maria Callas and American interior designer and fashion icon Iris Apfel to the leading ladies of music and film. His design journey for this collection started five months ago, planning on how the show will be and working on the fabrics he bought from LA.
“My collection revolves around the divas, both from fashion and music,” the designer tells Manila Bulletin Lifestyle.“I can say that during this time of pandemic I am most inspired. I guess my eyes and hands were so hungry to create something new because it’s been two years that I haven’t done a couture collection.”
What the master couturier showcased at the Petersen Museum is pure opulence with a series of white immaculate designs going down the runway. Among the stand-out pieces are his exaggerated take on the butterfly sleeves and a show-stopping gown with a billowing train. After the heavenly parade, pops of color entered the runway with floral frocks, sculptural dresses, and lush textiles bringing in shades of red, mint, blue, and yellow.
