Progressive groups KMP and KMU are set to stage a protest on Friday, April 28, to reiterate its calls for wage increase and to demand the lowering of the prices of basic commodities across the archipelago. ManilaBulletin

This call of action will be held at the Department of Agriculture’s office in Quezon City on Friday morning, days ahead of the celebration of Labor Day.

“The demand for a substantial wage hike and lower prices of rice and food echoes urgency,” said KMP on Thursday, April 27. The groups then stressed that a P750 across-the-board minimum wage will help alleviate the suffering of Filipinos, especially the marginalized sectors, amid the rising cost of living.

“The actual daily nominal wage in [the] National Capital Region – [which is at 49.1 percent] is not even half or equivalent to a wide range gap of 50.9 percent or P591. [Meanwhile], food prices in the country continue to soar higher and faster than anywhere else in Southeast Asia,” KMP stressed. During this protest, workers and farmers will gather to urge the administration to “make sincere efforts” to address the situation.
