Scientifically, retrogrades are just an illusion but that doesn't mean that they have no significance astrologically. They may be a hassle for the most part, but retrogrades tell us to take a step back, pause, and reflect. They're road bumps in the highway that is life – and like all road bumps, they contribute to growth.
