The Philippines detected 225 additional cases of Omicron subvariants BA.5, BA.4, and BA.2.12.1, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Friday.

At a press briefing, Health officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said the latest genome sequencing results yielded 190 new BA.5 cases, bringing the total number of BA.5 cases in the country to 4,203.

Of this, Vergeire said 162 individuals were from the Davao Region, 23 were from Soccsksargen, three from the Bangsamoro Region, and one each from Caraga and the National Capital Region. Vergeire said 149 of the cases were fully vaccinated against the illness, and four were partially vaccinated, while the status of 37 was being verified.

Meanwhile, 175 of the cases were tagged as recovered, seven were still undergoing isolation, while the outcome of eight cases was being verified.Meanwhile, the DOH also recorded 34 additional BA.4 cases, 23 of which were from Soccsksargen and 11 were from the Davao Region.Vergeire said 33 of the cases were tagged as recovered.According to Vergeire, the sole BA.2.12.1 case was detected in the Davao Region, bringing the total number of cases to 182.The BA.5, BA.4, and BA.2.12.
