Philippine Red Cross (PRC) chairman Senator Richard Gordon urged Sunday, Feb. 7, the government to act “with sense of urgency” on calls to launch the saliva reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing for public use.

He noted that many countries have been using the saliva RT-PCR test since last year. These include Israel, Japan, Hong Kong, United Kingdom, Australia and Thailand, he said.

In a radio interview last week, he laments that the PRC has to yet secure the nod of the Department of Health Health Technology Assessment Council before they can launch such test for public use.According to him, the PRC has logged around 17, 955 online bookings for the saliva coronavirus disease-2019 test.
