DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III expressed optimism that the government will reach its goal of fully vaccinating 54 million Filipinos by the end of 2021.
“And the third milestone of course—as the President’s marching order has been for us to inoculate no less than 90 percent of the Philippine population which is equivalent to about 99 million Filipinos before the end of the administration of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte,” he added.Duque reiterated his call to the public to participate in the government’s COVID-19 vaccination as vaccines will help prevent “severe to critical COVID infection, hospitalizations, and deaths.
The Health chief said that vaccination is an important tool especially amid growing concerns about the Omicron coronavirus variant. “[I hope] Omicron will not lead to serious and severe critical COVID cases because I think we can no longer afford another spike, surge…Talagang pinaluhod ng COVID ang ekonomiya ng buong mundo at lalong-lalo na ng Pilipinas ,” he said.Duque also reminded the public that even if they are already fully vaccinated, they still need to adhere to the basic health protocols.
