MANILA - The Philippines is experiencing a shortage in onion and garlic as local farmers are unable to "produce much" of the crops amid the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, Agriculture Secretary William Dar said Thursday.

Dar did not say why the Philippines does not produce enough onion and garlic, but told lawmakers that the Department of Agriculture has been urging Filipinos to engage in backyard gardening to improve food security in households. "We have a big program now on 'Plant, Plant, Plant". Mayroon na halos P400,000 na naibigay namin in terms of mga buto, mga seedlings... at native chickens ay nagbibigay na din tayo," he said.

Most that are widely used are imported even before covid.kase sadly mas mura ang imported.locals cant compete with the price unless nagkaka problem ang harvest sa china.and minsan sa customs po ang problema.hence nagkaka 'shortage'

Personal observation, yung sibuyas parang abundant sa supermarket...ang bawang ang palaging out of stock.

short of... not 'short in'
