The Philippine Navy (PN) has spearheaded the first-ever art exhibit in a military camp featuring the artworks of Navy reservists in time for the culmination of the month-long celebration of the National Arts Month this February.

Navy Flag Officer in Command Rear Admiral Giovanni Bacordo graced the opening of the “Arts and Soldiers in the Reserve Force” exhibit held at the Naval Reserve Command headquarters in Intramuros, Manila on Thursday.

In his speech, Bacordo lauded the efforts of the NRC in initiating the first arts exhibit of Navy reservists in the history of the organization. “This exhibit showcases the passion, talents, and love of arts [of the reservists] and [it is] truly demonstrative of the superior skills possessed by our reserve force,” Bacordo said.

The exhibit was made in collaboration with the Tagapagtaguyod ng Sining ng Kultura ng Pilipinas chaired by Navy reservist-artist, Commander Flordeliza Villaseñor.Cultural performances were rendered by various artists from the cities of Marikina, Mandaluyong, and Quezon on the opening day. The Arnis Federation of the Philippines also took part in the event.

Proclamation No. 683 of 1991 declares every February as National Arts Month. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Ani ng Sining : Philippine Arts Festival” which underscores the creative power of arts and its role as a catalyst for change.
