PH logs 4-month high of 12,021 new Covid-19 cases

THE Philippines logged 12,021 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 on Wednesday, the third highest caseload since the pandemic started, according to the Department of Health .This is also the highest case number since April 3, 2021, when the infected hit 12,556.Positivity rate remained high at 21.9 percent, meaning that more than 8,426 samples out of the 38,478 samples tested on Monday returned positive.Active cases also rose to a four-month high at 81,399 cases, of which, 97.

6 percent, or 2,116, are severe or critical.Total recoveries re at 1.577 million, including 9,591 new recoveries, while 154 new fatalities were added to the death toll, which now stands at 29,374.Nationwide, 68 percent, or nearly 7 out of 10 intensive care unit beds are in use, meaning that of the 3,800 available ICU beds in the country, 2,584 are currently occupied,Of the 1,200 beds available, 69 percent or 828 are occupied in the National Capital Region .
