Personal grudge should not be used vs ABS-CBN's franchise bid - Nancy Binay

MANILA - Politicians should not use their personal grudge as basis of their vote on ABS-CBN's bid for a new franchise, Sen. Nancy Binay said Wednesday, days after several House members aired grievances against the broadcast giant in committee hearings.

"Kung salita lang ng hugot [against ABS-CBN], I think I can claim na kami ang winner nun... ABS-CBN was not fair to us. For me, that is a fact," Binay said in an online press conference. There were also some lawmakers who slammed the network's fictional shows for painting politicians as villains. Others claimed that the network did not give them enough airtime to explain allegations against them.

Does this mean a lot of congressmen have a personal grudge against ABS-CBN? If true, that says a lot about the network. But I’d like to think some Congressmen are simply sick of the network’s role as a kingmaker, their penchant for meddling in politics and their law violations.

Saddened by her comment if only for the fact that after more than a century of being a republic, she still needs to remind lawmakers of their basic conduct. No wonder some of our laws were never done with people and common good in mind.
