Permanent evacuation centers needed –solon

“It’s really a very important now na magtayo tayo ng permanent evacuation center.” Zarate said in an interview with ANC on Monday.

“They said that this will be really costly but if you will compute the cost in the long term kung itatayo mo yan ngayon mas makakatipid ka kesa taon-taon.” he added.“Open space para maging functional siya and kasama diyan provision ng mga modular tents siguro na pwede dalhin sa labas at pwede ring ipasok sa loob and kailangan, ang nakalagay sa bill natin kailangan meron ding provision for clinic, for permanent kitchen, for office nung disaster council at iba pang basic needs.” he said.

Zarate said the government should think of a long term solution for the evacuation centers so that it can accommodate the number of evacuees. “Tingin ko mas kailangang paghandaan ngayon ng pamahalaan ay yung matagalan and yung rehabilitation dahil nakita naman natin the devastation caused by the eruption specially sa towns near the volcano.” he said.

House Bill No. 5259, The Evacuation Centers Bill was filed by Zarate last October 2019 establishing in every two to three contiguous barangays a permanent evacuation center to accommodate all evacuees and likewise serve as the central disaster risk reduction management institution per respective communities.
