The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) assured on Monday, May 11, that the distribution of social pension to indigent senior citizens will continue.

DSWD Secretary Rolando Bautista gave the assurance even as the DSWD is assisting local government units in the distribution of the first tranche of the Social Amelioration Program subsidies nationwide.

The total number of beneficiaries served by SocPen, however, is only 17.57 percent of the 3.5 million indigent elderly targeted to receive the government pension. She said senior citizens who are not included in the list but are eligible can still appeal to the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs , their local governments, and the nearest Field Office, which has jurisdiction over their areas for assessment.

The DSWD had earlier vowed to expedite the payout of the social pension to 3.5 million indigent senior citizens to help them augment their daily needs during the enhanced community quarantine .
