While testing all employees for COVID-19 before returning to work is not mandatory, the Parañaque government is requiring employers to test their workers as several businesses reopened on May 16

In an executive order issued by Mayor Edwin Olivarez, employers should have their employees tested to ensure that only Covid-free people are working.

“The mere fact that they are operating in the city, then we demand that they must have the testing. But that is not, again, a prerequisite. They can resume now, but during their work, continuing their work, in a period of seven days they must have a testing for employees,” Soriano said. “We believe this is in harmony with the national guidelines issued by the national government. Because the whole purpose of this one, with respect on the policy on Covid, is to fight against it,” he added. However, employers must find a government accredited testing facility on their own. They will also shoulder the cost of each test., but we are not endorsing. It’s up to them. After all, we have a public hospital in the city, Ospital ng Parañaque 1, Ospital ng Parañaque 2.

Business establishments in Paranaque required to test workers for COVID-19Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez clarified that the order requiring business establishments to test their workers for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) before they will be allowed to work was meant to control the spread or minimize the transmission of the virus in the city. Close all business. Getting them to almost dry off their pockets, then now require them to spend money for the testing. Where is this going to take us? We should now worry how else will these establishments recover. And I am not even referring to SME’s. How can we be sure that after testing, employees traveling almost everyday, will not be infected? Is this on a 2wks basis of testing? Fresh from the lockdown is still not proof employees are negative? Brilliant! Businesses suffering already because of ECQ. No income since March but the good Mayor still thinks there is money to spare for covid test for workers who will go home to other cities and could possibly get infected there and return again to Paranaque. USELESS!
