worldwide, but has hit young workers especially hard, forcing more than 1 in 6 people aged under 29 to stop working, the United Nations said on Wednesday, May 27.has disproportionately affected young people"I don't think it is giving way to hyperbole to talk about the danger of a lockdown generation," ILO chief Guy Ryder told a virtual press conference.

In Canada for example, the overall jobless rate rose 6 percentage points from February to April, but for young men it swelled by 14.3 percentage points to 27.1% and for young women it ballooned by 20.4 percentage points to 28.4%.The ILO said it did not yet have enough data to determine the overall youth unemployment rate since the crisis began.

The report warned that young people are facing a"triple shock" from the crisis, which is not only destroying their employment but has also disrupted education and training, and has made it far more difficult to try to enter the labor market or move between jobs.
