Juvic Pagunsan receives his trophy and symbolic cheque from Manila Southwoods general manager Mark Watson.
It was performance that should be one of Pagunsan’s best in his long storied career. When it was finally over, Pagunsan had on his three scorecards for the 54-hole event an eye-popping collection of two eagles, 19 birdies – including the five in yesterday’s fina round at the Masters course – and two bogeys that translated to a whopping 21-under total of 195.
Lost in the shadow of Pagunsan’s superb and steady form was the outstanding play of amateur Carl Corpus, a member of the multi-titled Southwoods team playing out of San Jose State who salvaged a tie for third place with Gerald Rosales with a 73 and a 208 aggregate. “I just hope that we can do this again next year. I wish to thank Southwoods chairman Bob Sobrepena and the club membership for hosting this pro-am event for us pros,” said Pagunsan. Sobrepena himself kept a positive attitude toward the Southwoods Pro-Am becoming an annual event after the success of its inaugural staging despite the limited time the club had to prepare.
