Auring, the first cyclone to enter the Philippine monitoring area this year, weakened into a tropical storm at 2 p.m., but may strengthen before hitting land, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said on Friday.
It said Auring is seen to move west in the next 12 hours before shifting northwest on Saturday. It will then make landfall over the eastern coast of Caraga Region on Sunday morning, it added. At 4 p.m., the tropical storm was seen 405 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur with maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 105 kph.
On Sunday, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Visayas, Caraga, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, and Bukidnon may experience up to intense rainfall, while Romblon, the rest of Northern Mindanao, Lanao del Sur, Cotabato, Davao City, Davao del Norte, Davao de Oro, and Davao Oriental may experience light to moderate with at times heavy rains.
