Philippine lawmakers aim to pass a massive P1.3-trillion economic stimulus package to jolt the economy back to life from the coronavirus pandemic, but NEDA's Karl Kendrick Chua says the amount is 'not fundable.' Full story:

In a strongly-worded text message to Rappler, Albay 2nd District Representative Joey Salceda questioned Chua's remarks.Salceda pointed out that the country's debt-to-gross domestic product ratio is at a record low of 41.5% as of 2019, which means that the government has borrowing capacity.

For Quimbo, the P130 billion proposed by economic managers is"a pitiful response to the biggest economic catastrophe since the World War.", said the government should instead"maximize the impact" of the policy tools introduced by the economic team and the central bank. He said money can be coursed through financial institutions and state-owned banks, which would then maximize the impact.
