Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David was reelected as the head of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines during its 126th plenary assembly in Kalibo, Aklan on Saturday.

– Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David was reelected as the head of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines during its 126th plenary assembly in Kalibo, Aklan on Saturday. The 64-year-old David – who openly condemned the killings during the previous administration's war on drugs – will serve another two years for his second and last term.

David was one of the four bishops charged in 2019 with inciting to sedition, cyber libel, libel, harboring a criminal, and obstruction of justice. The following year, they were cleared of sedition charges, which stemmed from a viral video that linked former President Rodrigo Duterte and his family to the illegal drug trade.Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara of Pasig was also reappointed as vice president of the CBCP.

David and Vergara, along with Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula and theologian Estela Padilla, will be among the Filipino delegates to the 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops set for Oct. 4 to 29 in Rome.
