The release of the Airpods Max manifests how silence has become an expensive commodity in the modern world. This is especially true in highly-urbanized cities, thanks to the clamor of mass transit and busy throngs of people working day and night.
It should not be. For noise that we cannot control, we can choose not to add to it. A driver can choose not to pump the gas of the vehicle to minimize noise. Anyone can choose not to shout if not needed. We can all become conscious of how we contribute to the noise.
