DAVAO CITY – Presidential Assistant for Eastern Mindanao Leo Tereso A. Magno on Wednesday, October 25, honored the heroism of courageous individuals who died during the Battle of Surigao Strait on October 25, 1944.

Magno, who attended the 79th Commemoration of the Historic Battle of Surigao Strait at the Boss Memorial Shrine in Surigao City, encouraged everyone to reflect on the insights derived from the battle and its pivotal role in defeating the Japanese occupation."What is important is to know how to move forward from this event. How you will go on with your life after the Battle of Surigao Strait," Magno said in his message.

He also discussed how the battle catalyzed Japan, Australia, and the United States to uphold peace and sustain their ties with the Philippines. Magno acknowledged Surigao City Mayor Pablo Yves Dumlao II and Surigao del Norte Gov. Robert Lyndon Barbers for improving Surigao City and Surigao del Norte.
