The OCTA Research group on Thursday, July 15, flagged the rising number of new coronavirus disease cases recorded in cities of Cebu and Lapu-Lapu.In its latest monitoring report, OCTA reported that the reproduction number, which represents the rate of infection, in both cities increased to 1.37 and 1.80, respectively.Experts pointed out that the only other area with a “very high” infection rate was Mariveles town in Bataan, which had one day with more than 200 new cases.
But it noted that the town reported “very low” numbers in the subsequent days, “which suggests that the spike in cases was due to a clustering from lags in data reporting.”OCTA reported that the National Capital Region and Bacolod City had “low” infection rates.OCTA noted that intensive care unit utilization rates were very high in Davao City, Iloilo City and Santa Rosa.
On the other hand, “moderate risk” areas include the NCR, Cebu City, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos and Lapu Lapu.
