THE number of poor Filipinos decreased to 17.6 million in 2018 from 23.5 million in 2015, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported on Friday.

In a briefing, PSA said the poverty incidence among the population or the proportion of poor Filipinos whose per capita income was not sufficient to meet their basic food and non-food needs, was estimated at 16.6 percent last year from 23.3 percent in 2015.

Mapa said poverty incidence among Filipino families was estimated at 12.1 percent from 17.9 percent in 2015.
